Higuera

Tomas Benedito Higuera was born on March 7th, 1818 in Los Angeles, the son of Jose Maria Higuera Maria de Jesus Cota. Tomas married Basilia Babiana Hernandez on January 8th, 1842 at Mission San Bautista. Mr. Higuera came to San Luis Obispo in 1855 with his family and bought property in the southern portion of town. The 1860 federal census lists his occupation as farmer. The 1880 census lists his address as being on Marsh Street

Here's a property map of landowners around that time. Note the names of Dana and Johnson. This map lists the date of 1870.

Here are some property documents dated 1870 which Mr. Higuera's claim to his land beginning his residency in San Luis Obispo as 1856 and describes in detail the location of the property.

Thomas Higuera died on March 10th, 1886 and is buried at the Old Mission Cemetery.

This image is located within the walls of the Mission. Of note is the harp that is inscribed on the cross along with the shamrocks.

And finally here is a family portrait of Tomas Higuera (back row in middle).

And another one of Tomas towards the end of his life with his wife Basilia and two of their children.
